Giving Hope Through Education in Tanzania

Giving Hope Through Education in Tanzania

This October, we are pleased to announce that we will be continuing our work with the School in a Bag charity, delivering 120 SchoolBags to disadvantaged children in Tanzania!

At Blake we are committed to helping others and we are proud to be working with such a wonderful charity, because we believe that an education for these children could be their passport out of a life of hardship and poverty.

The children we will be helping are between the ages of 7 and 14 and come from the primary schools of Malagosi and Lyamgungwe, two small rural villages in the Iringa region of Tanzania. In these areas, most of the population are engaged with peasant farming.

Many of these children have lost one or both of their parents, mainly due to the terrible HIV pandemic. They are therefore putting up with extremely difficult living conditions and heavy responsibilities, such as caring for younger siblings or their remaining parent, many of whom are very weak and ill and require close care and assistance.

All of these children are from disadvantaged backgrounds, but in these areas there are some families so poor that their parents cannot even afford to buy their young ones the basic learning equipment such as a pen or pencil.

They all need our help, and we at Blake are thrilled, once more, to be “Giving Hope Through Education”.

During this project we will be working with Willhard Mgbolea, President of IRUDI (Iringa Rural Development Initiative), a local non-governmental organization who are committed to improving the lives of those in the villages of the wider Iringa community in Tanzania. With a large majority of residents having to travel many miles daily to fetch water or receive an education, this fantastic group work closely with volunteers from all over the world, undertaking projects such as supplying clean water, building schools and providing education to villages that would otherwise be almost isolated.

Learn more about IRUDI here.

We look forward to work alongside this fantastic organisation in delivering our next batch of School Bags and doing our bit to help the thousands of poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children there are throughout the world.

We’ll be sharing pictures as soon as we can, so keep an eye out for further updates on our Projects page!
