Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI)

At Blake, the ability to conduct charitable work is a fundamental part of our identity, as such we are committed to giving support to a wide array of charities.

The RBLI was nominated as a charity by Alun Smith, our Quality & Compliance manager. Alun took part in the RBLI’s ‘Great Tommy Sleep Out’, raising a fantastic £480.

The RBLI is a national charity supporting the Armed Forces, people with disabilities, and people who are unemployed. The charity has a proud heritage of helping to improve the lives of those who’ve sacrificed so much. They support veterans in need in the UK, whom live with physical disabilities and mental health conditions. The services that the RBLI are able to provide through fundraising and donations allow these veterans to overcome complex disabilities, homelessness, long-term health conditions, and addiction, enabling fulfilled independent lives.

Here is why Alun chose to fundraise for the RBLI:

“The RBLI is important to me, giving my service background. I am a veteran myself and my career was cut short through injury and being downgraded, this meant that I was no longer fit to deploy on operations after 12 years of service. The RBLI were key in securing me a disability & war pension on leaving the military, the support and advice was second to none. I know many of my comrades that I served along side have also benefitted from this great charity. The RBLI also supports forces personnel and families whilst deployed away on operations. As the commanding Officer of Yeovil Sea and Royal Marine cadets I have the responsibility of committing to fundraising events and supporting other charities. The RBLI was my chosen charity for this year, as May 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the charity. 75% of homeless people in the UK are ex forces people, I’m not the type of person to gain sponsorship for run of the mill activities given my back ground. Sleeping rough is a hard ship and is very tough on the body mentally and physically so I thought this coupled with my posts and pictures on social media would help raise funds and raise awareness of such hardships faced in everyday life.

With the support of Blake my colleagues and friends I was able to more than double my target”
